It’s that time of year again! With most schools starting already, and many next week, most people are preparing for another academic year.  When trying to buy a laptop, backpack or the perfect first day outfit, Calgary has a variety of places for essential back to school needs. Although summer may have been somewhat bleak this year, back to school savings are on an all time high. This is great especially for University students since getting ready for school can seem like a long and expensive process.  As a fourth year University student,  I am well aware of how important it is to find great prices.  I had to do this very same shopping trip last week.

Now where can you find these great deals? Well, it’s just a matter of knowing what you need!

Here are just a couple of examples of where the best places are to go.

Northland Mall and Market Mall

Both of these malls are only located 5 minutes away from each other, leaving even more options. With how close they are, it is very easy and convenient to get absolutley every thing that you need.

Need a new laptop, camera, or phone?  Best Buy, Future Shop, Staples and Apple are all located in this area. All four of these stores have incredible deals for students. Also, with all the promotions there are, you might be able to score a free ipod, printer, or even new accesories for your brand new laptop.

Need school supplies? Staples, Zellers and Wal-Mart are all within a 7km radius! Everything you could possibly need is located in these stores.  Also, this is a perfect time to stock up on most supplies so you don’t have to worry about going back later!

Need new clothes for work or school? Both malls have a variety of stores that will allow you to put together great outfits for a great price. While walking down the halls of either shopping centre, you will be amazed at all the “SALE” signs. Some of these signs even advertise for 70% off.

What if you have most of your school supplies but want to spend the day shopping and relax?

Chinook Mall

Chinook Mall is the largest enclosed mall that Calgary has within city limits. With over 200+ stores, and an additional 80 brand new stores opening later this month, it can take a whole day to take advantage of all the great deals. Also, when you are exhausted from shopping, take a break in the Cineplex theatre and enjoy a cheap matinee.  After the movie, grab a bite to eat in one of the several restaurants all located within the mall.  Now that’s what I call a great day!

Now that you are all done with your back to school shopping, it’s just a matter of time before the Christmas shopping begins!
