I’m sure everyone’s heard by now, but for a while there Prince’s Island, the usual venue for the Calgary Folk Music Festival, was kinda underwater a bit. The happy news is that the Festival is still happening. It starts this very evening (July 25th), and will still be occupying Prince’s Island.
Due to the extensive damage done by the flood to the island, it was something of a question as to whether or not it would be ready for the Festival. And, if not there, where would the Folk Fest take place?
Fortunately a week ago it was announced that it would be ready in time. But, since then the park has been closed to the public. It will actually be open for the first time in very nearly a month tonight for the opening evening of the music party. So… get ready to have a Folkin’ good time!
If you’re not familiar with the Calgary Folk Festival, and you’re into Country, Folk, Folk Rock, Folk Blues, or any other combination or permutation of the above, you are missing out. Here is a list of the performers. http://www.calgaryfolkfest.com/artists/
Here is where you can get tickets, although, at this point you can only get tickets for Sunday. They are $75 at the gate, except for seniors tickets, they are $25 dollars: http://www.calgaryfolkfest.com/tickets/
If it’s your first time going, I suggest bringing some camp chairs, some snacks, and a windbreaker. The breeze coming off the river can be… brisk.
